Please leave a comment to let me know you were here. If you have any kind of Germanic blood in you, and roughly 17% of the US is specifically German, this is the place you need to be!

I was so thrilled to find this website; this is exactly what I've been looking for. I have somewhat of an involvement in Heathenry and Northern Tradition Shamanism, but those faiths have never felt quite right to me. And it turns out they're based almost 100 percent on Scandinavian spirituality and customs, so no wonder. My ancestry is German and English, and the German blood is what I connect with the most. Now that I've found this website, I've shared it with friends and I'm looking forward to learning more. Thanks so much for making this available. Also, I've noticed with many of the Norse pagans that it's like they want to bring back the entire lifestyle of the Viking and pre-Viking days. If a faith does not fit in with the current evolvement of a culture, then it's no true faith at all. Being a Germanic pagan should not mean running around with a long beard and wearing a horned helmet, living in a hut with no plumbing or electricity!

I am a Dutchman, so technically a Germaan. I was raised like most in a 'Christian household' (i put it in quotes since it seemed to be Christian in name only) yet I always felt like it was alien to me. I've also always been drawn (compulsively) to the history of my ancestors and it was in that interest that I got a glimpse of the beliefs of old. But like most, if you want to know more, you might catch a glimpse through Tacitus, and the rest is Scandinavian. But then I came across Irminenschaft. It interest me because it seemed to talk about MY ancestors beliefs, and once I read about it, it just felt familiar, and right. This site is so interesting and I simply cannot get enough of it. I know it wasn't the aim of this site, but thank you for bringing one Dutchman home.

This site was a pleasant surprise to me, and I'm glad it exists. Irminenschaft has been a great resource to me on my heathen path as I have a lot of English and German in me and can trace my lineage to Saxon times. I'm glad you're in charge of the site Cal. I'll definitely keep up with it.

Hello! Your site is full of good things, some of them truly unique, and I thank you for it, BUT I don't understand how come did you make Karl Maria Willigut part of the Armanen calendar - as if he wasn't the one that had some of us arrested and tortured!?
His Halgarita charms are full of semitic elements of the most demonic sort, i.e. baal, belial...
Throw him out or this is no Irminschaft but dispersion of force.
We lost the war because of the likes of KMW (Weisthor).

Heilsa! I apologize for my comment on Wiligut, after contemplating the subject for a long time, I am now able to say that I overreacted; consequently I wrote things that I didn't understand enough. Even at this point, I don't really understand them, but I hope that in time the gods will deign me worthy of knowing. Heil the Runes! Heil Wotanaz!

I didn't realize anything like this was still going. We are relatively new to the US- I'm only 5th gen- from Bavaria. Mom's side has some very interesting Saxon families in it too so I will never want for things to research and better my heathen practice!

Hallo Bruder Caroll! I came across Irminism recently while researching the esoteric meanings and functions of the Irminsul, and from that came across this excellent website. You are providing an essential service by keeping this work available and updating it, not to mention giving a living communal aspect to it.

My late father was originally from Germany (Bad Cannstatt) but immigrated to America, so I've always had a direct connection to the Fatherland. However, only within the last few years have I been drawn to our Heathen folkways - realizing the spiritual implications of belonging to a certain Folk after taking a life-changing visit back to Germany - and especially within the last year when I've finally taken the decision to take it from solely a scholarly interest and belief, into fully practicing and living it (since I don't do anything half-heartedly but have to fully be aligned with it).

My German roots are from the deepest Sudwest, the noble lands of my Suebi and Alemanni ancestors. They are only two generations removed from their farmland in the Ostalbkreis. Although followed under a Catholic veneer, their traditions are easily traceable (as with all regions of our Germanen folk) back to pre-Christian, indigenous Germanic traditions.

So needless to say, I have been repelled by the Norse/Scandinavian focus of Asatru which simply does not and cannot fully resonate directly with me and my own Alpine Germanic traditions. Its good for those from those backgrounds (or perhaps of English heritage), but we of Continental Germanic heritage - and specifically the most Southern tribes - need our Path.

Irminism and the Irminenschaft seem to fill that void. I also like the Volkisch effort because, while firmly rejecting Universalism and instinctively knowing each Ethnic Group has their own innate faith, nor do I agree with those Asatruar currents that think Germanic Heathenry is for all European-descended people, even those with little or no Germanic heritage.

I am also part-Celtic through my Iberian side (which came to Schwaben and intermarried with my Swabian German side) and no doubt also my maternal Flemish side (the Belgae being a historic amalgamation of Celtic and Germanic). But me being majority Germanic and having the most direct connection to Deutschland, this is what resonates the most with me! I can imagine if I was majority non-Germanic, I would follow another Path like the Celtic etc.. So the specific German-focus of the Irminenschaft is definitely the way to go for we who hear that call of our Continental ancestors.

I am continuing to soak in all the information and studying, and I also look forward to eventually meeting real life Irminists and truly being part of an actual community (despite me being geographically far from the Midwest, so outside our majority German-American lands). Definitely corresponding and networking with others, exchanging ideas and learning/growing. Danke Schon!

Vielen Dank, sehr interesant .. I am native German, well, per latest gene testing .. 50% German, 25% Scandinavian, 15% Russian, 5%Italian, 5%Irish... born and raised in Germany, married an American and moved to the States in 1995. Being Wiccan for over 30 years, I feel a calling and now I am exploring this Irminism, I honestly never have heard of. Must be because I was raised catholic. Thank you for all this great information, any book recommendations by any chance? bitte und danke :)
