Called the VA on the possibility of getting a flu shot. They made it sound like, yes, but getting there was another story. I wasn’t going to wait today. I’ll get one over the next couple of weeks when they are better set up for quick distribution.
It was a great day today, with both good luck and bad luck (Pertho) but the beginning of healing (Ur) as I began my ancestry search locally. My first stop was at the Kauffman Museum http://www.bethelks.edu/kauffman/ in North Newton. My sole reason for going there was to look thru the ship manifests to find those who boarded ships to come over to the US from Europe. While I did find the manifests easily enough, I’m not sure I have the right information.
The columns were set up thusly:
1st column, a number that equated to a specific ship, sailing date and home port
2nd column, family fame
3rd column, first name
4th column, age at time of sailing
More work and more visits will be necessary.
My next stop was at the Mennonite Heritage Museum http://www.kansastravel.org/mennoniteheritagemuseum.htm in Goessel. There, due to new ancestral info, I found a display showing my g-g-grandparents on my mother’s side; David A. Schmidt and Maria Nachtigal. Next stop. Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church and the Friedhof Cemetery just north of Goessel. The office person inside was extremely helpful. Interestingly enough, I found my g-g-grandfather Reimer’s grave, Peter A. Reimer, which I was in search of in the first place, but could not find my g-grandfather; uncertain whether or not it would be him anyway. Now I’m too tired to go back in for clarification. Next stop, Dillons in S. Newton for food. OMGs, it was too hot temperature-wise and too spicy. Tears were rolling. This was not pleasant.
Once home, I took Toby for his one-mile walk. I also stopped off at my J’sW house. He’s having some potentially serious health issues.
