OMGs! I walked into another shit-storm @ work! Probably the worst yet.
*I go to my table shaper and just KNEW something wasn’t right. Hot parts not finished and set aside, table-shaper set-up on something not-so-hot. These parts that were hotter-than-the-hubs-of-hades yesterday, one part scrapped yesterday by a 2nd shift colleague who cut short the joggled end. More material was ordered and the contour achieved by hand-forming, were still there. TODAY, the opposite end was cut short by my 1st shift colleague. Immediately, the 1st shift Super tried to deflect blame by asking us why we didn’t run them yesterday. Time-stamp showed hand-forming didn’t sign them out until 11:30pm, which means we had to time to run them anyway. 1st shift Super walked away fuming.
*I firmly believe planning often times has no idea what we do. My operation said to add .2 “to the right end”, but we don’t deal with “ends”. I checked with a stretch-press operator to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I had NO IDEA why, the stretch-press operator had no idea why that instruction was on my operation in the first place. I just carried-on per data set.
*My Super brought to me an order of parts with a note in them saying, “leg was cut too short”. I went back to my operation, that said to alter cap only, which I did. I remember that order quite well, because it said to add .05 to each side of cap to accommodate stretch-forming. The leg had no indication of altering; rather, a factory edge, which I brought to the attention of my Super. Possibly, whoever ordered the material, ordered the wrong material. I just know, and my Super was convinced, I was not to blame.
*Lead man in chord-trimming brought an order of parts to me, saying one side of the cap was too wide. Checking the planning, the data set showed leg was fine, one side of cap was fine, but the other side of the cap wasn’t touched at all, but needed to be altered to 1.18, this also by my first shift colleague. I brought this to the attention of my Super, and he asked me to print off the data set. He said, “Obviously they’re in need of help”. Jeez… Imagine that, 1st shift, with all their experience, needed help from a lowly, less experienced 2nd shifter. I put the parts and the print-out on the 1st shift Super’s desk.
*C’mon…I just had to laugh at all this stupidity. May I continue now, with my regularly scheduled shift?
