“Okay, here’s what’s going on with my Facebook pages. For those of you who don’t know, Caroll EH Reimer and Vaygar-Ingvald Elmersson are one and the same. Almost 17 years ago, as I was beginning my path with Heathenry, I was finishing my probation with New Gladhome Kindred. It was customary with them to be in search of a Heathen style name coupled with one’s father’s name as “son”; hence, Vaygar Elmersson was born. Loosely translated, Vaygar means “holy spear” and I am the son of Elmer. Ingvald was a late addition to reflect my association with the god, Ing-Fro. The name has served me well for all these years. I really like it.
However, it seems that very few Heathens anymore take on a name indicative of their path. At the same time, over the last several years I have taken on the Irminenschaft as my chosen belief system within Heathenry. My strong German heritage connects me well with the Irminenschaft. In essence, Vaygar-Ingvald Elmersson may very well be coming to an end.
I understand my birth name of Caroll Reimer may not sit well with some. Believe me, I’ve heard it all. Yet, my pride in my German heritage outweighs any ridicule I may suffer because of a name I was given 60 years ago, when “Carroll” was a very acceptable male name. I guess my mother was confused in the spelling. As I make the transition, also understand the EH reflects my father’s name (Elmer) and my grandfather’s name (Henry).
So, for better or worse, Vaygar-Ingvald Elmersson (Icelandic form) will eventually give way to Caroll EH Reimer (German /birth form).”
