At the Veterans Expo, initially I was peeved because there was no Coast Guard represented there, but soon realized it was about resources FOR veterans, not about specific veteran groups. What ended up happening was the focus came on me because I was wearing a Coast Guard t-shirt and hat. Several people commented on me being a Coastie. In particular, I was personally invited out to Wichita State University on Monday to help celebrate Coast Guard day out there. Of all the conversations I had with people, THAT particular conversation floored me. I will make every effort to be on campus from 11-1 Monday. Disappointment turned into realization and opportunity!
