Outcome: LOTS of cat activity this morning.  Long-tail and found Socks’ food supply in the back yard and is helping himself to it.  Stubby was caught in the back yard by both Socks and Toby.  He was having aheluva time getting away.  I had to pick him up to put him on the other side of the fence.  This WHOLE problem is caused by Socks’ refusal to go into his Cat House where his food and water would normally be.  Socks also wanted to come inside MY house.  Sure, I’ll let him, however briefly, and under close scrutiny.  Sadly, Socks is quickly becoming nothing more than a porch cat, unless he can be convinced to go back into his Cat House.

I wasn’t exactly sure where Toby was so I started calling him.  OMGs, he brought a freshly killed squirrel inside.  Okay, not panicking, I told him he was a good boy, as I picked up the squirrel cadaver with a plastic bag and Escorted Toby back outside with it.  You should have seen the look of pride on his face.  I could be angry with him.
 
I met with a secondary social group; a spin-off of the first.  My first meet-n-greet with The Isle was at the Volcano Vapor Café http://addr.ws/volcano-vapor-cafe-hookah-lounge--wichita-us.html an interesting little place.  I’ve never heard of a hookah vapor anything.  While there I grabbed a sandwich, chips and a coke.  Not horrible conversation, but I was most interested in a nice blonde who worked there.  I may go back one day just for the heluvit.

Outcome: Sunrise time in the back yard with Essie.  While there, I started considering what needs to be done in getting the Haruc ready for Yule.  At the same time, I’m still trying to figure out what to do with Socks and his disinterest in his own house.  More than being disinterested in his Cat House I really thing he’s more concerned about keeping Stubby at bay.  What I know more than anything is that I don’t trust Socks being alone or unattended in any way in MY house.  I can let him in for a while, perhaps to eat some of Essie’s Science Dirt, but soon enough he has to go back outside.  He blew that trust issue LONG ago when he started indiscriminately spraying. My veterinary, perplexed, said he was probably neutered later in life and is just in the habit now to spray.

Rehearsal for the wedding went EXCEPTIONALLY well.  This is going to be one for the record book; not necessarily for the amount in attendance, but for the available scenery!
 
Neighbor over with food offerings from the Food Bank; two home-grown tomatoes (didn’t last long), a Fuji apple (didn’t last long), and a bag of salad greens…LOVE IT!
 
Family outside time.  As much as it about killed me to be stern with Stubby, it’s nicer for all concerned that he’s not around all the time.
 
Microwaved lunch: macaroni w/beef, two small ears of corn, a buttered whole wheat English muffin.

Outcome: Socks once again refused to go into his house, but given the opportunity, he bolted inside my house.  He was obviously hungry.  I gave him both kibble and wet.  He explored around a bit.  Then I picked him up and carried him outside.  I have a difficult time with allowing him inside my house because I know how he indiscriminately sprays.  I can’t have that.  This is the best I can do for him until I understand why he doesn’t want to go into his own house that I KNOW he loves.
*there’s Stubby at the front door.  I grabbed a handful of kibble, carried him…struggling…to his house and dropped the kibble on his porch.  That’s the best I can do for him.

Both Toby and Essie have always had unlimited access to food.  The both need to lose weight.  Today starts their restriction.  I read what’s on each bag of kibble to determine requirements.  I have measured out their daily rations.  When it’s eaten it’s eaten.  They will still get their wet food first thing, and I MAY adjust their kibble accordingly.  Treats will be limited.  Essie has always had TWO unlimited places to eat.  When I pulled up one, she looked at me like she was asking, “What the hel do you think you’re doing?”  I’m going to keep a close eye on their food to see what it takes for them to actually run out of food by the end of the day.

I got a wild hair to see if a croquet field is doable in my back yard.  Sure enough it is.  I mowed a spot down to the mower’s lowest level.  I’m not sure of exact dimensions for a proper croquet field, I just made mine to fit cross-ways.  I made it 16 paces x 8 paces and spaced the wickets accordingly.  It seems to play well.

Ya know, huggling with Socks makes me realize the freedom Socks has to stay or leave.  Luckily, he chooses to stay.  Evidently, the increased cat population hasn’t pissed him off too much.  My fear is that one day he’ll get fed up and split.  I sincerely hope that never happens.
